Mogamizakura Zensen: A unique fusion of Enka and Rock, whom stage expression includes not only music but also dance and comedy encapsulating the essence of Japan. Highly recommended to any Japanophile!

Mogamizakura Zensen, an unusual trio of vocalists featuring Kouki from D=Out, Seth from Moi Dix Mois, and TSUKASA from THE MICRO HEAD 4N’S & Luv PARADE (ex-D’ESPAIRSRAY) are truly a force to be reckoned with if you are a Japanophile. Despite their roots in dark Rock/Visual-Kei, the three men have joined forces to explore the traditional yet popular genre of Enka. As we ventured into the concert armed with curiosity and a dash of uncertainty, we were blissfully unaware that we stood at the precipice of an experience that was set to defy our expectations. The fun and friendly ambiance, catchy songs and the sheer vibrancy – all of these elements converged to create a show that was a true representation of a modern theatrical performance.
On March 9, at Kabukicho Theater, Mogamizakura Zensen delivered a multifaceted entertainment show as promised. The trio put their diverse talents under the spotlight, engaging the audience through singing, acting, and comedic interludes. Their performance was a contemporary spin on the popular Enka genre: the songs featured electrifying guitar solos. The influence of their Rock background was clearly discernible, lending a unique edge to their music. Their show epitomized the fusion of tradition and modernity, mirroring the cultural landscape of Japan. Mogamizakura Zensen’s performance embodied the vibrant spirit of Japan. The show was filled with references to iconic elements that are synonymous with the country’s identity, such as the enchanting world of Studio Ghibli films, the tranquil allure of onsen (hot springs), the unspoken culture of the yakuza, and the fleeting beauty of cherry blossoms and so on. It felt like these men had embraced the essence of Japan, promoting its unique facets. In essence, Mogamizakura Zensen’s performance was a tapestry of cultural references that celebrated the diverse aspects of Japanese society. It showcased the band’s deep-rooted connection to their heritage and their ability to seamlessly blend these elements into a great show. For those who have a fervent admiration for Japan or a love for immersing themselves in different cultures, this performance was a true sensory feast. It offered a glimpse into the rich tapestry of Japanese traditions and popular culture, creating a memorable experience.
However, the show is not limited to those who have a love for Japan. If you enjoy Pop/Rock music in general and simply having a good time, Mogamizakura Zensen’s performance is for you. Each member brought their unique vocal style to the stage. Kouki’s voice possessed a distinctive edginess. His personality shined brightly, bordering on cuteness. On the other hand, Seiji (Seth) showcased a deeper, more masculine tone, demonstrating excellent control of vocal technique while exuding a feminine elegance. Meanwhile, TSUKASA’s voice carried a softer tone with a traditional and beautiful vibrato. He was a true showman, often making the audience laugh. The combined vocals and stage presence of the band members created a unique show. The performance by Mogamizakura Zensen was a joyful and funny spectacle of entertainment. It exuded humor and fun. The band members exhibited great chemistry on stage, engaging in playful banter. Their outfits underwent multiple transformations, ranging from beautiful traditional robes to rock-inspired and cabaret suits, adding visual flair to the show. Whether you are a fan of Pop music or simply looking for a fun and entertaining experience, Mogamizakura Zensen’s performance is sure to please you.
As the show came to a close, Mogamizakura Zensen announced their plans to release a CD in the autumn 2024 and play on November 10th (Sunday) at Asakusa Kagekijo Theater.
