THE MORTAL’s performance was elevated by the grandeur of these meticulously designed lighting effects, which danced in harmony with their dark and ethereal music.

THE MORTAL may be a new band, but their talent and stage presence defy their short existence. Led by Atsushi Sakurai, the grand and renowned vocalist of BUCK-TICK, the band has recently released their debut album, I AM MORTAL, showcasing an astonishing level of mastery and maturity. Their music strikes a delicate balance between heaviness and plaintive melancholy, while also incorporating ethereal elements that lend a sense of lightness to their sound. Just one week after the album’s release, THE MORTAL wasted no time and embarked on a series of live performances, including a captivating show at Tokyo’s prestigious NHK HALL on November 25th and 26th. NHK HALL exuded opulence with its plush red velvet and ornate gilded accents. The venue, typically reserved for the NHK Symphony Orchestra, provided a stunning backdrop that perfectly complemented THE MORTAL’s ethereal aesthetic. As the audience settled into their seats, a hushed reverence filled the air, accompanied by the strains of Italian opera playing softly in the background. The atmosphere was already set, and anticipation grew as the lights dimmed, signaling the start of the concert.
The opening song unfolded behind a grand curtain, offering mere glimpses of the meticulously crafted stage set. When the curtain finally dropped, the scene revealed itself in all its splendor. Candles adorned the stage, casting a warm glow, while a mesmerizing geometric figure floated above, reflecting a mesmerizing interplay of lights. The band’s performance was elevated by the grandeur of these meticulously designed lighting effects, which danced in harmony with the music. From the first encore onward, THE MORTAL shifted their focus to a series of captivating cover songs, including tracks from their mini-album. With each note, they transported the audience into a hypnotic realm, paying homage to iconic bands such as BAUHAUS, The Damned, and Siouxsie and the Banshees. The crowd was spellbound, completely immersed in the band’s mesmerizing renditions. THE MORTAL’s performance at NHK HALL was a testament to their artistic vision and attention to detail. Every aspect, from the carefully curated stage design to the captivating lighting effects, was meticulously planned to create an immersive and unforgettable experience.
