On August 5, 2023, the Japanese music world lost a truly singular voice — ISSAY, the enigmatic frontman of DER ZIBET. Yet even after his sudden passing, his voice had one more chapter to unfold. Now, in their 40th anniversary year, DER ZIBET releases their final studio album, titled “KUTEN～Period～”, out today, October 22, 2025 via POP MANIA LABEL (distributed by Sony Music Solutions).
While it marks a farewell, this is not a posthumous release in the traditional sense. The record was already in progress at the time of ISSAY’s passing — a work born of intention, not nostalgia. This isn’t a compilation or collage of fragments. It’s a fully realized studio album that closes the band’s four-decade legacy with elegance and grace. His bandmates and longtime friends and collaborators came together to complete what he began, shaping his final vocal takes into a breathtakingly cohesive and emotionally charged album (read the full story). The album also includes three bonus tracks from their rare 2008 EP reD biteZ, bringing the total to 11 songs.
To celebrate the release, VMJ is giving away two physical copies of the new album.
